Happy Valentine’s Day : New Single “We’ve Just Begun” & CA shows!

Peoples!

This letter is going to be short because I’m packing and going to be late for my plane to California where we’re going to be performing some crazy songs…FOR YOU!

But yes, oh yes, Happy Valentine’s Day and as a present our single ‘We’ve Just Begun’ came out today. My friend Jon who usually organizes everything for us online starting with our lovely website, claims that this song is a perfect Valentine’s Day present and I say ‘but wait, how do you wrap it up?’ and the answer is – you don’t! You just quietly place it under her/his pillow!

It’s available now at iTunes and Amazon.

Well, cool … back to packing!

And please fly to our shows in California from where you are, life is too short not to and the plane tickets are too cheap not to, especially when you use those awesome miles which are running out on me like crazy:)

Anyway, here’s the list of the shows. See you guys and gals soon!

Feb.18th – Monterey, CA, The Turf Club

Feb.20th – San Francisco, Cafe Du Nord

Feb. 22nd – Los Angeles, Silverlake Lounge

Feb.24th – Sacramento, the Townhouse Lounge

Look for more shows and details on our site and Facebook.

Sept Shows & News

Hey hey hey!

The smell of Autumn here in NYC makes one intoxicated. I think that’s the only change I like about seasons, oh and winter going into spring, too. The rest kinda sucks:)

But off the weather topic. We get these Google emails, they send us everything that is related to Persephone’s Bees and yesterday we got this link, and it’s pretty cute, I gotta say! My nephew didn’t like it but only cause he’s a little boy that doesn’t understand yet when someone somewhere far at the place you’ve never even been to is covering your songs it’s pretty damn awesome! Well, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvZVlcbAdbo

Farewell San Francisco Show August 20th

Dearestest friends,

For a couple of years now you’ve been asking us when we’re coming back to the East Coast. Well, we’re coming back soon and for a long time. For those of you that are on this shore, come to our last show here in San Francisco on August 20th at Cafe Du Nord to celebrate the end of our Bay Area chapter and the beginning of a New York one. Cafe Du Nord is a very special place for us: when we moved to San Francisco and nobody knew anything about us, Tom and I recorded our first demo, we sent it on cassette tapes all over the city, 2 clubs responded the next day, Martin the owner of Make Out Room said ‘Come and play any time, any day, do whatever you want!’, and Cafe Du Nord responded by giving us our first residency, we played every Tues. night for two months straight, thus building Bay Area following and spreading our music all over the place. I’d say our music path started at this place. So, we decided to have our farewell show in SF at Du Nord.
Will be showing a new video that night, celebrating my Bday, listening to DJ Omar, and our friends The Soft White Sixties and Angel Island will be sharing the stage with us.

Love to you all. Angelina

Soon: more news of the record release and the tour dates.

Final New York Show with Diamondsnake!

Hi, it’s me again. Writing a lot lately? Well, it’s because we’re in NY and we’re playing some really cool shows and it’s exciting and I want to share EVERYTHING!!!

The night at the Santo’s Party House was incredible, pure joy. All the bands were excellent, and that inspires us a lot.
Don’t know if I told you this story but a long time ago when we just started I was putting shows together in SF, I’d book the night myself and usually would pick really great bands to play with us. And one day a musician of a then popular band said to me ‘Why do you always book good bands around your performance?’ I said ‘What do you mean?’, he answered ‘Well, you are supposed to put sucky bands around you so when you come out you sound even better!’. I didn’t know much about how show biz worked, had no idea what the rules are, but I thought of that idea as being a horrific one, and I gotta tell you, I’ve been on stage for many years and my experience tells me to always always always play with excellent bands. Why? Cause it makes you play a lot better, it inspires you. Bad art drags you down, drains you, and by the time you go on stage it’s really no fun anymore!

But anyway, the night at Santo’s Party House was organized by DJ Neil, our San Francisco friend and a brother, and yes, not only he put together a ‘fantastic’ (his favorite word) bill, but played some great music. Thanks Neil and thanks to everyone who was there with us.

But tomorrow night (June 17th), yes yes yes! Persephone’s Bees with Diamondsnake (Moby’s new heavy metal band that he formed together with our dear friend Phil Costello who was kind enough to sit in with us on bass through NY shows until Ethan arrived from SF) at Highline Ballroom. We’re on at 9 pm, be there early!

Oh, another great news: my friend Sasha gave P’s Bees CD to one of his friends who is a sitter for this 108 year old Russian lady by the name of Marya Mihailovna. Don’t think that being 108 makes her dumb or deaf, this woman still reads!!!! Yes, the magnifying glass is gigantic, but she reads every day, talks, listens to music. Anyway, her sitter puts on Persephone’s Bees, Marya Mihaolovna listens, moves her feet, then exclaims ” This is better than Lady Gaga!”. Haha, true story.

Make sure you check out our new photos on Facebook, and see you tomorrow night!

Last night at the Bell House

Hey everyone! Thanks for another fabulous show last night! We had a great photographer coming to the club, she took lots of photos, we’ll post those soon. Did a show, watched Serpico, ate falafels, sweated and went to bed! No party for us last night, were too tired from the heat, but everything we did was highly enjoyable, even sweating. Finally bought a summer dress today, my black cool SF clothes ain’t working here, I look like a dark angel. New Yorkers these days aren’t what they used to be when I was here in the early 90-s. In those days I remember a lot more freaks were around, the artsy type, well..the type I happened to like, they seem to be gone which bums me out sometimes but at the same time it feels that when someone cleaned up this city, and made it a lot more expensive they not only pushed the artsy type out but also the dangerous type. It feels safer to walk on streets than in those days, but still…I miss the freaks. Anyway, all good, see you at the next show.

New York Tour, New Shirts & more!

Dear fans,

Thanks to all of your love and support P’s Bees music has spread all over the world: a friend in Moscow turned the radio on the other day and City Of Love was playing. Another friend was flying on AirChina from Hong Kong to Bejing and Nice Day was a featured song in a hit section, same just happened with Paris, when a friend of mine said she thought of me and suddenly P’s Bees song came on the radio. I was shopping at the Crossroads and White Stripes were finishing up on a satellite radio and I thought ‘P’s Bees are next’, and a very familiar beat came on, I couldn’t believe my intuition, and wanted to scream from joy!

People write from all over the world, we just shipped a vinyl to a boy from Mexico who said he loves the music but can’t effort our vinyl, he was thrilled.

We’re off to New York, where we’ll be living and playing for the next two month, while getting ready for the release of the new record. Come and say hello to us, we’ll be playing lots of new songs, and be selling an EP, a taste from the upcoming record, we’ve got some killer new shirts that Jon, our loyal friend and a webmaster designed for us. There’s one design that I made by hand, Jon and I scanned it in and made a shirt out of it, turned out really amazing! So, lots of cool stuff is happening.

“I Love Rock ‘n Roll” (in Russian):persephonesbees-iloverussianroll-final

January shows and newzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Dear friends, lovers, sons of gods, daughters of the devils, people of the Middle Earth, gremlins, dwarves, witches, elves, fairies, pixies, goblins and other fabulous creatures, enchanted beings and magical monsters!

PERSEPHONE’S BEES ended 2009 in that classic P’s Bees way: on fire, in front of great music loving audiences, and that’s all we care for, really.

And when we get this way, we tend not to notice the time, the days, the hours, the minutes that ticking by and flow into months and years, and next thing we knew 2010 was knocking on the door. There was nothing we could do – we let it in.

And now!!! For those of you that were born to love music we have a lot to offer, and you know that! We might not have been as “connected” online as the modern world demands of an artist to be, but we never cheated you in any way. What you see is what you get: we compose and arrange our songs as a great chef would do to ingredients at a fancy restaurant. We put our ear next to the song when it’s born and we become the careful listeners at that moment, and we hear it whisper and tell us which direction it wants to go, what character it was born with, what it wants to be on the recording, and how it wants to shine while being played live.

And yes, it is live, everything we do on stage is live: no prerecorded tracks, no fake vocals, no cheating of any sort, and music at times right there on stage, right in front of you takes us places we’ve never thought of going to. Those are the best moments of being a musician, those are the moments we musicians live for, it is the biggest pay off we can take with us after the gig when we go home.

That being said, Happy New Year to you all, and we’d be delighted to see you at these shows in January:
